November 1 and 2

Mr. S. and I have major grocery store issues. We like Whole Foods the best but it is, gasp, all the way in Tempe and some Sundays we just can't make the drive. We also like Trader Joe's and it is kindof on the way to yoga so sometimes we go there. But...it doesn't have the selection of leafy greens we are used to from Whole Foods. The grocery store a block from our house is known for having rows of empty shelves and the produce department prominently features flies. So sometimes, like this week, we end up being lazy and going to the Safeway. Sometimes it works out but sometimes they don't have tofu. So we were missing that for one meal, we forgot to soak the beans for the chili, and we didn't have the wild mushrooms for the fritatta. Thanks to this perfect storm, we ended up walking to what I consider to be one of the biggest attractions in Phoenix - THE CHINESE CULTURAL CENTER!!! It is really just an extremely weird shopping center with an Asian theme and an even weirder grocery store but it is here that you can find the largest selection of bean curd, read tofu, in the city...if you can only figure out what you are buying. I think this picture says it all.
And here my class is making hearts with their shadows. Aren't they just adorable? I feel like I could teach kindergarten forever. Their little hands express my feelings exactly.
